Common Questions about our VPN/Proxy Detection
How accurate are the results?
Based on third-party test results, our VPN and Proxy detection tool is about 80% accurate. Like all other VPN and proxy detection tools, there is no guarantee that the information provided is accurate. There may be some false positives, as well as some IPs that have been detected as a proxy and/or VPN by accident. We strive to provide the most accurate information on our detection tool.
How are proxies identified?
Our bots are constantly searching online for public proxies and are adding the public proxies into our databases. Since our bots constantly run every hour, some proxies may not be detected.
Can this private proxies be detected?
Unfortunately no. Our bots can only identify proxies that are public and open to everyone. However, if the proxies are hosted through a datacenter, our VPN detection API will pick up the IP as a VPN/proxy.
How are VPNs detected?
Our VPN detection tool is based on our custom IP Address API, which allows us to detect if the IP address is located from a datacenter or if the IP has been previously know to a threat to users. IP Addresses that are linked back to a server or datacenter or associated with spam/abuse/fraud will be flagged as a VPN.
